weil ich so bin

LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer – terms that are barely heard of in German refugee policy. Yet, there are people of the LGBTQ community seeking asylum in Germany due to persecution in their countries of origin. However, there are too little answers to the problems that they are facing after their flight. Refugees who are still in need of protection, once arrived to Germany. Often, they don't find peace and are exposed to the homophobia of their compatriots. Many LGBTQ refugees don't come out for fear of assaults that take place on a regular basis. For this portrait series, I travelled all over the country to find people who would share their story with me. Very few were willing to do so – for fear of homophobia in Germany.
